Psychotherapy aims to help participants address psychological issues of immediate concern, with a wider goal of increasing long term mental wellbeing by building self-awareness, understanding and acceptance. Ár Scéal’s team of IACP qualified psychotherapists work with people on a one to one basis, primarily through talk therapy, but harnessing the creative possibilities of the Ár Scéal space as appropriate.
There are many different types of therapy so I have listed and explained different types for you, my experience is in integrating these together to allow flexibility in helping you in the session.
Person Centred Therapy can help you discover solutions through compassionate and non-judgemental listening. This therapy gives you the space to find the problems that are holding you back and come up with solutions to make appropriate changes that will benefit you. You will be helped to grow as a person to cope better with current problems and ones that come your way in the future.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at how you think (cognitive) and how that affects what you do (Behaviour). This will help you identify thinking that may not be accurate and learn how this effects you physically and affects how you act. It can help in coping with stresses and anxieties in life and teach techniques to deal with them.
Brief solution focused therapy can help in identifying and clarifying your goals and to come up with solutions to help you plan for change. This therapy focuses on the solutions rather than the problems and explores how your life might be different if your symptoms or problems where gone or reduced. Working with your strengths and resources this therapy can provide lasting change.

We will support you in taking practical steps forward and making some positive decisions to improve your situation now and into the future.
Your unique difficulties may be with you a long time or may be in more recent years so depending on your problems, therapy may be short or long term.
We can work to improve relationships, address your specific problem, cope better if you are in crisis and learn to live more peacefully and satisfied in your own world.
